Bodegas Mauro

TERREUS

Terreus is Bodegas Mauro's most emblematic single-vine wine, produced exclusively from the Paraje de Cueva Baja vineyard, a small estate of 3 hectares of old vines planted on sandy-clay soils. With a marked personality, it combines an imposing structure with great fruitiness, aromatic depth, and a serious, complex, and elegant palate. It is an aristocratic wine, with exceptional balance and great aging potential. Although approachable in its youth, Terreus greatly rewards with age, developing greater complexity and depth in the bottle. A benchmark among great single-vine wines.

Expert opinion

Luis Gutiérrez thinks:
The 2022 Terreus Cima de Cueva Baja has the spicy nose that made it famous. It's a blend from an exceptional lieu-dit at 800+ meters above sea level where the old vines deliver 3,500 kilograms of grapes per hectare. It fermented destemmed in stainless steel, where it also underwent malolactic. The élevage was in French oak barrels and lasted for 20 months. It has notes of ripe berries, aromatic herbs and that creamy and spicy twist. It's soft and full-bodied, with very fine and elegant tannins, and it's juicy and silky, filling your mouth, with clean and focused flavors that last for a long time. It's very fine-boned, exceptional for the conditions of the vintage. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2024. (Robert Parker Wine Advocate).

6
Vineyard and production

Terreus comes from the El Almendro vineyard, located in the Cueva Baja area of Tudela de Duero, a unique estate of just 3 hectares planted on loose, deep, clayey-calcareous soils. The average yield is 3,000 kg/ha, ensuring high fruit concentration and quality. The harvest is carried out with careful manual selection, and the grapes are transferred by gravity to 12,000-liter stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts and a prolonged maceration of between 2 and 3 weeks. The wine ages for 20 months in French oak barrels, giving it structure, elegance, and great aging capacity. Terreus combines aromatic depth, complexity, and balance, establishing itself as Bodegas Mauro's great single-vineyard wine.
