5
Expert opinion

Tim Atkim thinks: El Picón is the icon wine from Pago de los Capellanes, sourced from a 1.7 hectare plot that was planted in Pedrosa de Duero in 1978. Very modern in style, with 30% new wood and malolactic in barrel, it has considerable concentration, power and structure, aromas of mocha, lavender and Asian spices, layers of bramble, blackberry and blueberry fruit and the structure and acidity to age well. 2025-35.

6
Vineyard and production

Vineyard planted on clayey loam soils with surface gravel and very low yields (1,800 kg/ha). The vintage was characterized by warm temperatures and low rainfall. Harvest was carried out manually in boxes with refrigeration prior to vinification. Winemaking consisted of a six-day cold maceration, fermentation with native yeasts in small French oak vats, and spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrels with battonage. Aged for 31 months in extra-fine-grain French oak barrels (225 L).
